Clark | Barnes provided architectural and interior design services for the renovation of the historic Hangar 27 located at Seattle’s Magnuson Park. The renovation included interior modifications and exterior repairs, as well as seismic and life safety upgrades. In addition, Clark prepared a Historic Preservation Tax Credit application.
Originally built in 1938 as a seaplane hangar for the Sand Point Naval Air Station, the building now houses three indoor soccer fields occupying 62,000 sq ft and a 21,600 sq ft health club. The facility takes advantage of the 50-foot high-bay interior by leaving the building structure exposed and creating a strong visual connection between the fields and the health club through interior glazing. Finish materials and historic photos emphasize its industrial character and waterfront setting on Lake Washington.
