Ken’s Market

Project Details

The renovation and addition to the tired 1950’s local family-owned store was designed to create a modern fresh vision for the future. The 12,000 square foot store is operationally large enough to serve the local community but still small enough to extend a warm welcome to the neighborhood.

Design updates included an overall re-organization of the plan, the addition of a new coffee bar, and an updated deli with expanded hot food preparation. New offices were also added to increase day-to-day working efficiency. In addition to bringing more light and transparency into the market, customers benefit from a new canopy on the sidewalk on inclement days.

The material palette included exposed structural members, stained concrete floors, natural wood and warm colors to celebrate the bounty of the Pacific Northwest.

The construction was divided and successfully implemented in two phases to allow the store to remain open during the renovation. The new design has greatly increased Ken’s Market customer base from the neighborhood it is proud to serve.
