Project Details

The original two-bedroom, two-bathroom mid-century modern house was neglected, and presented a dark and compartmentalized layout and design. The new owners looked at the house for four years prior to purchasing, and were charmed by the clean lines of the house and its stunning potential.

CLARK / BARNES redesigned the original 1949 floorplan and stripped it back to studs to reenvisage the home. The addition of a primary suite transformed the home into a three-bedroom, three-bathroom layout. The single-story home features a large backyard, which was converted to a private courtyard that is shared by the kitchen and dining area and the new primary suite to encourage outdoor living.

The gut renovation brought the home back to life, with all new systems and finishes and a very functional and livable floorplan. The mid-century modern was redesigned to reflect a Palm Springs aesthetic, and now features light-filled rooms with a neutral color palette, white timber panelled-ceilings, a mix of wall textures for visual interest, and a restored slate fireplace feature. The home features custom details that were thoughtfully sourced from around the world, including interior door hardware from Australian and light fixtures from Israel, ensuring that the overarching design is punctuated by unique interior details.
