This 164-apartment project is located in Ballard and is designed to reflect the area’s Scandinavian heritage. Sprawling apartments are complemented by ample amenities, including co-working space, fitness center, resident clubhouse, dedicated pet wash, plus a rooftop deck with stunning southern views, barbecue, dog run, fire pit, and gardens for residents to plant produce.
Architecture by CLARK / BARNES and interior design by Robin Chell Design defines the amenity spaces, apartment types, and sizes. The Scandinavian concept of “hygge” shapes the interiors, with coziness and comfort achieved through the use of charred woods, rich dark fabrics and bold contrasts.
Its sister building, Valdok I, is located across the street, and together the two buildings form a gasket shape, with prominent corners that create a mid-block courtyard effect. Vertical recesses in the façade and slender windows streamline the building and respond to Valdok I’s architectural cues. A mews to the North buffers the neighboring buildings and enhances circulation and apartment access.
CLARK / BARNES completed planning services for Valdok I and II to ensure complementary building experiences and common spaces. The amenities differ between Valdok I and II so residents can share and benefit from the unique spaces offered in both buildings, while the front entrances deliberately align across the street with co-working spaces and collaboration zones strategically positioned to enhance the community experience and encourage social interaction.
