Project Details

Currently under construction, this new 85-foot, eight-story hotel is being built out of type IV-C mass timber and located in the heart of Ballard. Comprising six floors of 120 upscale guestrooms, a double-height mass timber ‘jewel box’ amenity at the ground floor with outdoor open space, a guest roof deck, and one floor of below-grade parking with 30 stalls.

Mass Timber technology, inspired by the Pacific Northwest, creates an improved guest experience by bringing nature inside, and was selected as the structural system for numerous reasons. CLARK / BARNES were able to substantially reduce the amount of concrete in the project by using eight stories of Type IV-C construction, instead of the traditional five levels of Type III-A over three levels of I-A.

Guest room dimensions are ideal for implementing mass timber, due to structural span and the aesthetic warmth achieved by exposed mass timber ceilings. The ground floor ‘jewel box’ also showcases exposed mass timber columns, beams, and ceilings that once complete, will be visible along NW Market Street.
